Affinity-I dont know if that's right word, I don't nomaly use. The new school year starts and new teacher for the new class, each one has secret way of running the class, one teacher posts home work assignment on corner of blackboard, never tell in the class but if you were late for dead line, she doesn't accept. I know I want to learn something and get it done but I have to go through her way to get "A" .

Or, at work, new manager comes, one emplolee can do whatever he wants but if I do the same thingt, I get in trouble. I see manager's headache, between the owner and employees. Still, if you are not nice, all I need to do is just wait you quit or get fired.

Anyway, I didn't have that between Javon Jackson and me.

When I got e-mail from Soiled Dove, Hmm, Javon Jackson...name sounds familier..but more like "Les MacCann" caught my eyes. In 2002, my guy Jeff Golub put solid cover album Do It Again and It has "Cold Duck Time". I wanted to check the original so, I got Montreux 30th anniversary CD.

Opening was Javon Jackson and this guitar guy, David Gilmore. I serched after the show, Pink Floid guitarist comes up but that's not him. Pink Floid guy's website is .com this guy's is .net

www.davidgilmore.net

It was calm opening. I liked the shirt Javon had on. Salmon and other colorful stripe. David had same style of shirt but the end of his shirt was stack in the pants pocket so, I kept looking at it, I couldn't concentrate to their music. When democratic president nominees had debate, New Mexico or so had a fly on his whie hair. I couldn't pay atention what they were talking . Just like that. I almost walk up to the stage and fix it.

Still, David's guitar was my favorite of of the night. The kind of guitar he uses didn't let me expect so much.At beginning, I thought " ah, that jazz guitar staff." scratching wires, no sustain. No, no. he makes all different kind of sound with that one guitar. I didn't look what atatchments he had. I didn't know that guitar can played like strat.

Kenny's base and other band memeber sound rock, R&B or blues rather than jazz.

Javon plays more like straight head jazz. Maybe that make sounds uniqe. Not smooth.
If all the band member play old fashion jazz, it would sounds like students taking jazz class copying old record.
Javon and band started one song and Javon said"here's my good friend of mine, Les MacCann.." the song went on leaving sapce sound of Les would be added on. The audience clap hands but Les did not show up. "what's going on? Is he OK?" Javon went to back of stage.
Javon brought Les out. He cannot walk by himself. He's here. Once he sat down behind keyboard, the aura of legend was coming out. Some audience was talking to him and requested the songs. He nodded head and started playing the song.
Jovan did not talk so much. He played his eyes closed like he's maditating. He said next song was Stevie Wonder's song, I liked the Nelson Rangel's version. Javon started the song with inprovisation . No rif or theme melody. It was too artistic for me. That made me think very beginning of American Idle audition which is acapera and I always amazed good ones sing by themselves without band but some were like " what song are you singing?"..later, Javon played rif part and I felt better.
To leave stage, Les got help.
After the show, I wanted to meet Javon but he was busy to talk people. I saw Carlos of KUVO. I said he should've done MC, but he was busy for KUVO pledge run and he didn't make it to the beginning of the show.
Greg is tour manager. Very nice guy. He took pictures of me and all the band memeber. I wanted to meet Les. He sent me back stage with David.
I got David's myspace but he said he hardly check it so, not to take it personaly. He's right and I haven't heard from him.
Greg said, Kenny'd better not to show this pic to his wife.
Greg sugested to take pic of me with Kenny and Rudy both but one was getting picture with someone else then. So, I got one of each.
I bought Javon's newest CD and got pic taken.
Kansas city musician Chris Burnet posted about Art Blakey tribute
Javon was there and Cutis Fuller. Since I met Curtis Fuller, I wanted ask Javon about it but he wasn't talking to me.
So, I got to the back stage where Les and people for him were hunging around.
Big musisians ask our name when they sign on CDs. I heard it privent to resale rather than personize CD. So, he asked my name and started " oh, are you Japanese? kombanwa..." and he tried to say Japanese.
He said "kirei desne." I said "are you talking about me? I hope so." because that means "you are buautiful." I was getting autograph on Montroux CD. When I was leaving, he repeated that. He must have had good time in Japan.
I hope I'll see him again.
After that, I noticed surprising person was there. Gerald Albright. Someone was saying, "you live in Castle Rock, that rich neighbor.." Yes, Castle Pine. Big houses are on top of each hills.
I said to Gerald "you could've played with them tonight." he said "I was good listener tonight." I said "I only brought New Biginning to the Winter Park and forgot Sax and Stax. I forgot to ask him to say hi to Jeff Golub. They would have a couple of nire Guitars & Saxes this year.

I forgot that I cannot turn the video when I was shooting Kenny. Oops.
I think Javon is more like artist than entertainer. I wish he could talk about his music more. I don't remember he thanked for us coming to his show, the words ususally hear at other shows. So, I don't know if he likes performing live. Every shows of KUVO plays his songs lately. I listened to his CD and I like the sound. The way he treats Les, he must be kind person. I hope I get talking to him some next time he comes in town.

J: Yes, I was. Every time Javon comes in town, he called me up and we talk.

drink I got at Warren Hill show

Before the show, I got drink. I wanted the same drink when I was at Soiled Dove for Warren Hill's show. I wanted turqoise drink then. I said " it got blueberry syrup and coconuts or something and it have to be turqoise. " There was only one bartender. He said " Ah, maybe blue Hawaii. Mike( who ever the other guy) is not here tonight but I remember YOU." I tasted on the counter and said "this taste right but where's triming?"
